Prayer of the Week on 1 Corinthians 3:9-17

Once again, you can earn one credit by reading the prayer of the week and answering a question. Submit your answer to both Father Andrew at oandrey(at)stlukeorthodox(d0t)com and myself at else10(at)gmail(d0t)com to receive the credit!

Prayer: Let us pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
O Lord, You are calling us to do works that build up the church within us. Help us to discern works that are gold and silver rather than hay and straw. May the works we do be refined by the trials of life and not be burned up. We pray our faith will become stronger so we can receive salvation and a reward as good and faithful servants. We pray in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Bible Text: 1 Cor. 3:12-13
Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.

Question
When St. Paul says "this foundation" what is he referring to?

Many thanks to Father Andrew Harrison of St Luke Orthodox Church in Palos Hills, Illinois, for providing this Bible study!
