Prayer of the Week on Luke 11:27-28

On the Dormition of the Theotokos

Once again, you can earn one credit by reading the prayer of the week and answering a question. Submit your answer to both Father Andrew at oandrey(at)stlukeorthodox(d0t)com and myself at else10(at)gmail(d0t)com to receive the credit!

Let us pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
O Lord, today we honor and praised the falling asleep of your mother and our spiritual mother. May she be an example to us of humility and evangelistic zeal. Her body became a living temple from which You shined and brought salvation to all. As she continually prays for us may we learn to be humble and pray for the salvation of all. We pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Bible Text: Luke 11:27-28
And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!”
But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Bible Question:
Why do you think this verse was selected by the Orthodox Church to celebrate Mary's passing?
