Do you have other resources online that you like to use? Let me know and I will add them to the list. Just e-mail me at else10(at)gmail(d0t)com. Thank you and bless you!

Blessed First Day of Lent!

The Creation

Dear Friends,

Today is the first day of Lent. May God be with you during the next weeks as we journey together to Pascha!

At St Luke Church, we are doing a 40-day Bible reading program. Please join us! Set aside a few minutes each day to do the daily readings. The first week's readings are listed below:

Feb 27, Genesis 1-2, The Creation Account
Feb 28, Genesis 3, The Beginning of Sin
Feb 29, Genesis 15 and Genesis 17: 15-27, God's covenant with Abraham
Mar 1, Genesis 21: 1-7 and Genesis 22, God's Faithfulness and Abraham's faith
Mar 2, Exodus 3-4, God calls Moses to deliver His people
Mar 3, Exodus 20,Tthe 10 commandments
Mar 4, Joshua 1, Conquering the promised land

You may also want to pray before reading. This opens our hearts and minds to God's Holy Spirit and makes us receptive for what is to come. Here is a prayer you can use:

"O Lord Jesus Christ, open Thou the eyes of my heart, that I may hear Thy word and understand and do Thy will, for I am a sojourner upon the earth. Hide not Thy commandments from me, but open my eyes, that I may perceive the wonders of Thy law. Speak unto me the hidden and secret things of Thy wisdom. On Thee do I set my hope, O my God, that Thou shalt enlighten my mind and understanding with the light of Thy knowledge, not only to cherish those things which are written, but to do them; that in reading the lives and sayings of the saints I may not sin, but that such may serve for my restoration, enlightenment and sanctification, for the salvation of my soul, and the inheritance of life everlasting. For Thou art the enlightenment of those who lie in darkness, and from Thee cometh every good deed and every gift. Amen." --St. John Chrysostom

Prayer, fasting and alms-giving are our work during the next weeks. Let us encourage each other and stand together during this time. God bless you all!
