St Valentine

St Valentine
 Dear Students and Friends,

Happy Valentine's Day! What does this day mean to you?

The day's origins are ancient and stem from the martyr of the same name.

On Orthodox Christian Network's podcast, Theologically Thinking, Keith Massey, PhD presents “Be Mine, St. Valentine,” a travelogue and theological reflection on an early Christian Martyr. He’s become misunderstood, to be sure. But in a good way.

Listen now.

You can also read about the life of St Valentine here and here and here.

You can earn one credit for listening to the podcast on OCN. Simply listen, fill out the podcast worksheet, and e-mail it back to else10(at)gmail(d0t)com.

Prayer and Liturgy Podcasts for Listening Credit!

"Golden Tongue"

Dear Students and Friends,

Here are several helpful podcasts to help you understand and practice prayer, and participate in the Divine Liturgy.

A Personal Prayer Rule: Khouria Frederica Matthewes-Green is back on the show today to talk with us about keeping a personal prayer rule. She’ll offer helpful tips on starting and maintaining a personal prayer rule, as well as some advice on how to build up the whole family’s prayer life. But first Fr. Harry Pappas, Adjunct Professor of Pastoral Theology at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, walks us through the Book of Psalms. What are some of the central spiritual teachings? How can we make sense of the violence contained in many Psalms? And how can something written centuries before Jesus’ birth reflect our Christian theology? Listen now.

On Worship in Spirit and Truth: join Dr. Demetrios Katos, as he explores the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, and helps you more fully appreciate what's going on in Church on Sunday morning. Listen now.

You can earn 1 credit for each podcast you listen to. Simply listen, fill out the Podcast Worksheet (from the Lessons tab, above) and email it back to else10(at)gmail(d0t)com to receive your credit.
